4. Clean the electrode face with a soft cloth or soft brush. Use warm water first. If deposits remain, use a weak acid. A 5 percent citric acid solution works for many scale and mineral deposits. A 10 percent acetic acid solution works for some organic films. Do not use a wire brush, sandpaper, scouring pads, or metallic scrapers. Scratches change the electrode surface area and cause reading errors.


5. Rinse the electrode area with clean water and dry it with a lint-free cloth. Check the liner for cuts, bulges, or chemical attack. Replace the gasket if it is compressed or cracked.


6. Reinstall the meter. Tighten bolts in a cross pattern and use the torque settings from the manual. Return to service slowly and vent air from the pipe.
